This is another attempt to turn positive noises into tangible results. The South Korean president is pushing but the U.S. establishment is scared of Trump’s actions. • Trade: NAFTA talks are continuing but a gap is still evident between the U.S. and Canadian positions. U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin pushed for more China-U.S. talks but Trump played-down their significance. • Syria: the world continues to wait and worry about the Assad regime’s (with allies Iran, Russia) impending attack on Idlib. The U.S. appears to have strengthened its position in the country and conducted war games maneuvers with Kurdish allies. Germany could be ready to join with the UK and France to punish any use of chemical weapons. Any new mass influx of refugees into Europe would create a political realignment.
