• The Mueller Investigation Widens: Bloomberg reported that the special counsel investigating potential Russia collusion had broadened the scope of his scrutiny to include the business dealings of Trump, Kushner and Manafort – going back years. This means, in practical terms, that ongoing questioning and inspecting of the Trump team will continue for at least his (first?) four-year term.

  • Migration: Italy has been trying to pressure France’s Macron to take more migrants, without much success. France is still behind on existing EU commitments. Australia has been criticized by the UN, which alleges that a deal was reneged upon when no migrants were moved to the mainland from offshore processing centres. While tensions between Turkey and Germany rise, the EU deal endures.

  • Ireland and GDP: the embarrassment of riches bestowed on the country by traditional measures, and large scale tax planning in its jurisdiction, has spurred statisticians to roll-out a GNI methodology which aims to strip-out the impact of globalization – leading to unflattering Debt-to-Income levels.
